The first thing you should actually do is figure out how you want to build your wooden wine rack. Do you have a lot of bottles to store? Do you only have a few? Do you plan to get more bottles of wine in the future? What kind of wood do I want to use? Do I want to use a wine rack kit or do I want to build my wooden wine rack from scratch? These are all things that you must figure out so that you will know how to build a wine rack. In this example, we will learn how to build a wine rack of a particular size. However, you are free to build more than one to store more bottles, or use a larger piece of wood to make a bigger wine rack. How to Build a Wine Rack – First Steps

To begin you learn exactly how to build your wine rack, you need to make sure that you have all of the required materials. The first thing you need is wood, 2 inches by 6 inches by 96 inches. Next you should have a jig, table, or hand saw, a drill press or drill, hole cutting bits 1.5 inches and 4 inches in diameter, sand paper (a small drum sander and orbital sander works fine), and optionally polyurethane or stain and a table saw dado set.

Once you figure out how to build a wine rack, buy the materials you need, and optionally buy a wine rack kits, you are ready to start. The first thing you do is cut side panels. Take your 2 x 6 wood and create 4 pieces that are 6 inches tall and 12 inches long.

Once that you have cut side panels, you are ready to commence the next stage in how to build a wine rack, cutting the wine supports. Taking your hand saw or your jig (it is also possible to do it with a dado set and a table saw) create four notches 3/4 of an inch tall X 3/4 of an inch wide on every board. Make sure you have two inches free on both ends so the notches wont overlap. Make your arcs equal distance apart along the other 2 inches of wood. Do this for the other wine support.

Your next step in how to build your wine rack is to create narrow arcs in the supports. Redo step four, except use the 1.5 bit and the other uncut boards. The wide cut boards serve as the bottoms of the support while the narrow cut boards serve as the top, which hold the necks of the wine bottles.
